If you mention Liverpool in the UK, the first thing that most people will probably say is that it’s the home of The Beatles. Many parts of the city’s tourism industry are linked to the world famous group, but there are also other attractions that highlight the city’s extensive history and culture.
The beaches
Liverpool is a great destination for a city break, but it also has some glorious beaches to visit. Crosby Beach is only six miles from the center and features “Another Place”, which is an art installation by Antony Gormley. It consists of 100 life-sized statues made from cast iron that look out to sea.
Fantastic shops
Visitors staying in the city’s short-term rentals who want all the major high street brands should head to Liverpool One. If you prefer more alternative and unique shops, Grand Central Hall is a fantastic experience. You’ll also find a range of independent shops on Bold Street.
Stunning churches and cathedrals
There are two beautiful cathedrals in Liverpool, one Anglican and one Roman Catholic, both of which are connected by Hope Street. They are both worth a visit and free to enter. St Luke’s Church was destroyed inside during the Second World War, but the outside stayed intact and you can now wander round the ruins.
Great museums
There are a number of interesting museums to explore that chart the city’s history. Some of those that are well worth a visit include the Merseyside Maritime Museum, the Museum of Liverpool and the Victoria Gallery.
