As one of the largest divisions in Bangladesh, Chittagong is home to great food, cheap places to stay, and beautiful coastline, and is well-known for its biodiversity and lush topography. While visiting the region, be sure to watch a sunset or two at any of its many beaches.
Cox’s Bazar
This fishing town has one of the world’s longest natural beaches – over 77 miles of uninterrupted and beautiful sand along the Bay of Bengal. You can also find a number of seaside sights, such as Kana Raja’s Cave, Inani beach, a perfect hub for sunbathing, and Himchori, known for its breathtaking waterfalls and verdant landscapes.
Patenga
Located just outside the city, close to where the mouth of the Karnaphuli river meets the Bay of Bengal, the popular Patenga beach is flanked by large boulders, which not only help prevent coastal erosion, but also allow visitors a place to sit and take in the beach’s beauty. Patenga is most celebrated for its sunsets, making this beach an ideal destination for an evening away from your accommodation.
Kuakata
With its panoramic vistas, the beach at Kuakata allow you to watch both sunrises and sunsets. Beyond that, Kuakata is home to many natural points of interest, such as the Gongamati Reserve Forest and the coconut tree haven of Narikel Bagan. You can also find the Kuakata Buddhist Temple here, which is one of the largest Buddhist temples in south Asia.
St Martin Island
This tiny coral island of three square miles is located at the mouth of the Naf River, which marks the border with Burma, and the Bay of Bengal, and can therefore only be reached by boat. Here, you can enjoy fresh fish, coconut water, and long walks on the beach – possibly even all the way around the island!
