The hacking of the Ashley Madison website has outed Madrid as one of the global cities with the most cheating spouses.
The online dating site, whose slogan is “Life is short – have an affair”, hit the headlines after hackers got into their database and revealed the details of thousands of people around the world who are actively looking for an affair.
Second place
The Spanish capital is apparently second only to London in terms of the number of people who used the website, according to the leaked data.
In London, more than 179,000 people had registered with the website, which equates to 2 percent of the city’s population.
In Madrid, which has a third of the population of London overall, more than 135,000 people registered with the site, which represents 4 percent of the people who live in the Spanish capital.
However, London and Madrid were the only two cities in Europe to make the top 25 on the list. São Paulo came out on top with 374,542 accounts, followed by New York in second place with 268,171.
Stolen information
The information came to light after hackers leaked the stolen database information.
According to the website, which encourages people to cheat on their partners, there are 37 million users registered worldwide.
For anyone looking to add a little spice to their trip to Madrid, it might be an extra reason to search out the best accommodation deals.
In addition, a recent survey revealed that Spaniards were the people most likely to have a holiday romance, possibly because the majority didn’t think that meant they were cheating on their partner.
