The Canary Islands are located in the Atlantic Ocean off the northwestern coast of Africa. The archipelago is known for its volcanic landscapes, warm climate, and affordable vacation rentals.
The fourth largest island, Lanzarote, has several beautiful beaches. With an average sea temperature of 19.5º C—roughly 67º F—the beaches of Lanzarote are ideal for swimming. They are also known for being tranquil and relaxing. If you are considering a quick visit to Lanzarote or looking for places to stay for a longer period, visit any of the beaches, deemed by many to be the best in the Canary Islands.
Papagayo Beach
Located on the southern tip of the island, Papagayo Beach is known for its fine white sand and the stunning, breathtaking scenery of the surrounding coves, cliffs, and bays. Papagayo is somewhat distant from most tourist resorts on the island, but it can be reached by a toll road or by water taxi, making this beach a destination worthy of a day trip from your vacation rental.
Famara
This haven for experienced surfers is located in the fishing village of La Caleta de Famara on the northwest coast, and is known for the Peñas del chache cliffs. Due to the choppy ocean currents and strong winds found in this area, swimming is not advised. Instead, enjoy the magnificent views of the cliffs, practice your windsurfing or body boarding skills, or simply enjoy a romantic walk along its white sands.
Caletón Blanco
Another famous beach is Caletón Blanco, located on Lanzarote’s northern coast in Orzola, which is home to many of the island’s dazzling beaches. In addition to its white sands and crystal blue water, Caletón Blanco is peppered with black lava, a sight you will not soon forget. While in Orzola, consider taking a short ferry ride to the lovely La Graciosa, a neighboring islet of the Canary Islands with a tiny population of 600 people and its own variety of unforgettable beaches.
